CTA add-drop form

General
Please keep these policies handy for your information. By signing the registration form, you are stating that you have read all of the policies in their entirety, and that you understand, agree, and completely support all policies and rules of Center for Theatre Arts. If you have any questions, contact Jordan Martens, Education Director, at 785.827.6126 or email jordan@salinatheatre.com.

Please be prompt in picking up your children. Tell your child to remain in the lobby and not outside. We are not responsible for children once they leave the building. Adult supervision ends at the end of each class. Students 4-8 years old must be dropped off and picked up from their classroom.

CTA is not responsible for any lost items. It is recommended that students do not bring valuables to class.

Spring Showcase
Each school year culminates with the annual showcase, in which every school year session student may perform. Summer session students do not perform in the recital but have a smaller, in-class demonstration instead. The annual showcase gives students the opportunity to showcase what they have learned throughout the year and is meant to be a fun and exciting way to cap off the season. Costumes for the showcase will be chosen by the teacher and announced to students and parents by the end of March. Costumes range in price from $10-$100 and must be paid for in full when ordering - no later than the first week of April. Costume orders are non-refundable. Students must have a costume in order to perform. Tickets may be purchased for $10 each. Tickets for the May 4-5, 2012 showcase will go on sale April 30.

Other Performances
Certain classes may be asked to perform for main stage productions and special events. Costumes will be coordinated per performance.

Room Use
No gum, candy, food, smoking, cell phones, or beverages (other than water) are allowed in the classroom. Please bring a water bottle to class if you feel that you will need water. There will be limited permission to leave class to go to the drinking fountain.

Students should use the restroom before class. There will be limited permission to leave class to use the restroom.

Students are not allowed to use CTA classrooms with out staff supervision.

Absentees and Missed Classes
Attendance is taken at every class. If your child will not be able to attend his or her scheduled class, please contact the studio office in advance. No tuition adjustments are made for missed lessons.

Class Withdrawal
You are responsible for all aspects of class participation unless a class withdrawal form is received and entered in the computer. These are available at the Stage Door #1 desk. You are responsible for all fees incurred up to that point. Tuition is non refundable. If you withdraw on the 3rd of the month, you are responsible for that month’s tuition. Tuition is posted on the 1st and cannot be changed after that date. There will be no refunds for any reason after the first scheduled class, whether or not the student has attended those classes.

In the event that a student needs to withdraw from a class before the end of the session, a Class Withdrawal Form must be filled out to prevent further billing. Once your child is registered, you are responsible for making payments whether or not they attend class. A Class Withdrawal Form is necessary to stop billing.

Removal
While we want all participants to enjoy themselves during class time, should a student be disruptive or disrespectful, that student will be asked to leave. This is to ensure that students and instructors derive maximum benefit from the classroom experience.

Cancellation
Salina Community Theatre reserves the right to cancel a class if there is insufficient enrollment and will issue a full refund should this occur. If the Center for Theatre Arts cancels individual class time a make up class will be scheduled.

CTA classes follow the weather closings as set by the Salina public school system. Check our website home page or call the theatre for information. Web notices are posted at salinatheatre.com/cta.htm by 11:00am on class day. Weekend notifications are posted at least 30 minutes before the first class.

They will not be used for any other purpose. No cameras (still or video) are allowed in class without advance written permission from the Education Director.

Private Lessons
Private lessons are available in all theatre art subjects. Private lessons are handled by individual teachers. For assistance any in finding the right teacher contact the theatre office.

Student-Teacher Interaction
CTA classes are geared to challenge you in body awareness, fitness, and artistry. This involves physical contact. Instructors will often need to make hands-on contact to adjust students’ alignment and to demonstrate proper motion. If this makes students uncomfortable please contact the teacher or Education Director.

Dress Code
Each class has a specific dress code depending on the skill being learned. Street clothes and shoes must be worn over dance clothes when outside the SCT. Under no circumstance should a student ever wear dance shoes outside. It is not the responsibility of the instructor or CTA for loss of materials or items left in the classroom, green room, dressing rooms, or other areas of the building.

Dance Dress Codes

Ballet All ballet classes must have pink tights, a solid color leotard and hair pulled in a bun or securely off of the face if it is long enough. Pink ballet shoes (no soft house slippers). A skirt is fine to wear, as well as close fitting sweaters, etc. for warmth if needed. Gentlemen must be in a plain t-shirt and jazz pants, black ballet shoes.

Tap Beginning and beginning/intermediate classes need flat black tap shoes. Black tap shoes will be worn until the student is in a class in which the teachers requires tan heel taps. Check with your teachers on what tap shoes you need. Student must wear appropriate dance clothing such as jazz pants, tights, and t-shirts, or if in a combination class, no changing of clothes is required. BTJ Grade 3-4 Int. and BTJ Grade 5-6 Int. need tan heeled tap shoes. All lower level classes need flat black tap shoes. All advanced classes should have both tan heeled, and black flat tap shoes.

Jazz Everyone needs black jazz shoes, either an oxford that ties or the slip on shoe is great! Wear a dance outfit!

Pointe Pointe shoes are to be worn with permission from the teachers. Ballet dress code required.

Contemporary Jazz/Modern Students work mostly bare foot. Comfortable dance clothes are required.

Musical Theatre Jazz Everyone needs black jazz shoes. The teacher will let everyone know what will be required for performance. Character shoes are used often.

Every dance class requires students to be in dance clothes and required dance shoes. Please consult with the teacher on what you need when you enroll for the class.

MOST and the Iron Street Dance Company will have requirements set by the teacher.

Medical
In the event of a medical emergency if we are unable to contact a parent, or if time does not permit, we will take the student to Salina Regional Health Center or use the 911 service. Expenses incurred will be paid by the parent or legal guardian.

Visitors
No visitors are allowed in the classroom. Students feel more confident making creative choices without an audience. Parent observation days will be scheduled throughout the year. If a parent has a specific concern, call the Education Director to arrange for a class observation. CTA cannot assume responsibility for any un-enrolled child accompanying a student to class.

Please keep these policies for your information. By signing the registration form, you are stating that you have read all of the above statements in their entirety, and that you understand, agree, and completely support all policies and rules of Center for Theatre Arts.

Scholarships

CTA has recently changed its scholarship application process. If you have questions, please contact Jordan Martens, Education Director, at 785.827.6126 or email jordan@salinatheatre.com.

Center for Theatre Arts turns no dedicated student away for inability to pay. CTA students wishing to receive financial assistance must apply for scholarship. Two types of scholarships are available, need based, and merit based. Need based scholarship applications will be reviewed and when approved, CTA will scholarship up to 50% of the student’s cost. The scholarshipped half will be earned through specifically assigned volunteer time. The student or parent/guardian of the student will be responsible for paying the unscholarshipped portion of tuition. Merit based scholarships are based on audition and dedication to the program. Audition dates for Fall 2011 are Sunday August 14, and Sunday August 21 at 6pm. Please contact Jordan Martens, Education Director, at 785.827.6126 or email jordan@salinatheatre.com.

Merit Based Scholarship Information

In order to offset the cost of operating the youth programs we ask that everyone pay at least 50% of the tuition for the classes/workshops you enroll in. This ensures we can continue paying our highly qualified staff. Any student, parent/guardian receiving scholarship is asked to repay the theatre with volunteer time. Each scholarship student will receive a specific volunteer assignment they are to complete throughout the year, along with a corresponding hourly rate that will be used to repay the scholarship moneys. Salina Community Theatre is a not for profit organization and we rely on the community for support to keep our programs running. Though some of these tasks may seem menial, please know that the theatre staff performs these tasks the rest of the year when volunteer help is not available.

How to apply for CTA Scholarship

1. Fill out corresponding application to what kind of scholarship you are applying for.
2. Turn in to Theatre Office.
3. If approved for Need Based Scholarship, you will be assigned a specific volunteer task and a corresponding hourly rate to repay the Salina Community Theatre. No one will receive a need based scholarship more than 50%.
