March 19-23 | 9:00am-3:00pm (Spring Break!)
James and the Giant Peach Day Camp

Grades 1-3. Students will study the classic Roald Dahl book James and the Giant Peach to create their very own performance to be showcased on Friday afternoon! Tuition is $150, with Quizno’s and pizza lunches available for $6 a day, Mon-Thurs. Friday is Burger King day! This camp will be taught by Shelby Meyer. Call 785.827.6126 to enroll.

Center for Theatre Arts classes meet all year long and follow USD 305 schedule. Students will be initially placed at a level based on age and academic grade. Teachers will evaluate students on ability and experience and determine appropriate class level. CTA teachers receive training in child development and are certified in CPR and first aid. We take extra steps to ensure our students have fun in a productive and safe environment.

Acting

Creative Dramatics
Age 3-K |  Tuesday 4:00-5:00 |  Rehearsal Room

A child’s imagination and energy is key to their development. Through a series of games and simple scene work, students learn to explore their imagination and harness their creativity, along with learning the basic concepts of stage movement and character development. A great environment for both shy and outgoing students alike!

Acting Grade 1
Monday 5:30-6:30 |  Rehearsal Room

Class consists of energizing warm-up, creativity boosting theatre games, as well as a lesson. Basic scene work is great for the emergent reader! Students will learn stage movement, vocal and physical character, and confidence on stage!

Acting Grade 2-3
Wednesday 5:30-6:30 |  Rehearsal Room

Students will study techniques such as stage movement, projection, and physical character. They will also begin to explore improvisation. Through theatre games, scene work, and imaginative play, this age level learns how to focus their creativity into a final, dramatic product.

Acting Grade 4-5
Tuesday 5:00-6:00 |  Rehearsal Room

This is the age level in which students are old enough to audition for most CTA Shows! Class focuses on what makes a successful audition along with techniques such as stage movement, projection, and physical and vocal character. They will begin to explore improvisation and continue to focus their creativity and imagination on the art of theatre.

Acting Grade 6-8
Wednesday 4:30-5:30 |  Rehearsal Room

At this level, the student will learn more specifics about acting technique. While continuing to improve physical and vocal character development, they will also begin to understand goals, obstacles and line-linkage. Audition preparation in the main focus of the class, but we will also explore improvisation at a more advanced level.

Adult Acting Age 14 & up
Tuesday 6:00-7:00 |  Rehearsal Room

For beginning through advanced adult actors; we will spend class studying technique (goals, obstacles, tactics, line-linkage, stage movement) and applying these techniques to scenes and monologues read in class. Beginning students will learn confidence on stage and how to have a successful audition, experienced actors have the opportunity to keep their skills sharp without having to commit to a full production.

Whether your goal is to be the next American Idol, Broadway Star, or just to be the best shower singer, this class is a vital tool to help you reach that goal. We’ll teach you the necessary music terminology, build rehearsal skills, and develop solid audition piece. Adult Vocal Age 14 & up

We are all students of our craft, regardless of age. This class will fit both beginning and advanced singers as we explore our own vocal strengths and weaknesses. We will build on our understanding of musical terminology and strengthen our audition pieces. Students must purchase The First Book of Broadway Solos by Joan Frey Boytim.

Intro to Music Theory Grade 7 & up

An instructional class for vocalists or musicians who wish to expand their knowledge of music theory. This class will lay the foundation for sight-singing and understanding the concrete side of music. Recommended for singers in musicals, church choirs, school choirs, or those interested in expanding their knowledge of the concrete side of music. Village is for lap babies, crawlers, and walkers. It incorporates the most current reserarch on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music movement.

Our Time | January 20-April 27 | Fridays at 11:00am

1-3 years
Class Structure: 15 classes in a semester, non-sequential Class Length: 45 minute class each week
Class Size: Maximum 12 children with parents

Our Time encourages toddlers to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self-control, and communications skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, and object identification foster language skills, while creative movement to various musical 'moods' develops a sense of balance, timing, and spatial awareness. Listening and turn-taking encourage blossoming social skills. Our Time reflects the emotional foundations of school readiness and the latest research on music and early childhood development. Our Time is a unique opportunity for parent and child to interact and learn together in an unhurried and joyful manner.

Imagine That! | January 20-April 27 | Fridays at 4:00pm

Age 3-5 years
Class Structure: 15 classes in a semester
Class Length: 45 minute class each week
Class Size: Maximum 10 children
Parent Involvement: Last 10-15 minutes of class

Imagine That! takes the preschooler on a musical journey of discovery and exploration…a journey limited only by the power of imagination. Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, movement, and literature to capture the preschooler’s potential to learn and to encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity and individuality.

Designed for active, energetic, enthusiastic, and imaginative children ages 3 to 5, Imagine That! classes encourage socialization, sharing, and participating in group activities. Singing becomes a focus for enhancing the preschooler's vocal development as expressive language is just beginning to emerge. The parent and child have fun participating together in the last 10-15 minutes of class during Sharing Time, where they'll also learn about Home Activities they can enjoy together throughout the week.

"I've always wanted to be a dancer." Have you ever said this? Well, now's your chance! Never Too Late is a beginning movement class for adult women only this fall. The class is taught by Vickee Spicer and is only $40 a month. Don't just talk about it anymore. Grab a friend and DO IT!

DRESS CODE

All Acting and Vocal classes should wear comfortable clothing that is not restricting in any way. Preferably no flip flops or slip on shoes.

Ballet
All ballet classes must have pink tights, a solid color leotard and hair pulled in a bun or securely off of the face if it is long enough. Pink ballet shoes (no soft house slippers). A skirt is fine to wear, as well as close fitting sweaters, etc. for warmth if needed. Gentlemen must be in a plain t-shirt and jazz pants, black ballet shoes.

Tap
Beginning and beginning/intermediate classes need flat black tap shoes. Black tap shoes will be worn until the student is in a class in which the teachers requires tan heel taps. Check with your teachers on what tap shoes you need. Student must wear appropriate dance clothing such as jazz pants, tights, and t-shirts, or if in a combination class, no changing of clothes is required.

Jazz
Everyone needs black jazz shoes, either an oxford that ties or the slip on shoe is great! Wear a dance outfit!

Pointe
Pointe shoes are to be worn with permission from the teachers. Ballet dress code required.

Contemporary Jazz/Modern
Students work mostly bare foot. Comfortable dance clothes are required.

Musical Theatre Jazz
Everyone needs black jazz shoes. The teacher will let everyone know what will be required for performance. Character shoes are used often.

Every dance class requires students to be in dance clothes and required dance shoes. Please consult with the teacher on what you need when you enroll for the class.

Move Over Show Troupe and the Iron Street Dance Company will have requirements set by the teacher.

DANCE LEVELING

Beginner Age 3-K
This is an introductory class for the student starting their first class.

Beginner/Intermediate Age 3-K
This is a level of class in which the student has had at least one year of dance class.

Basic Grades 1 & up
Classes are structured for the student to learn the basics of a dance genre through vocabulary, warm up, center work, progressions, and choreography.

Basic/Intermediate Grades 1 & up
Intermediate classes are for the student who has been taking dance classes and has a solid foundation of dance skills and vocabulary.

Intermediate/Advanced
Intermediate/Advanced classes are for the student who is ready to master a more difficult warm up, conditioning, turns, leaps, progressions, and challenging choreography.

Advanced/Pro Am
This class is for the student 18 and up who is an amateur dancing at a professional level.
